About Northland Erosion Control

Our Story

Northland Erosion Control LLC is a family-owned business built on a simple foundation: hard work, integrity, and doing things the right way.

Our roots go back to 2005, when Kenny and Janet got their start in the erosion control industry with a small, family‑run operation. Kenny continued building his experience through the natural ups and downs of the trade, navigating industry shifts and financial downturns along the way.

After nearly two decades of hands‑on work — and rebuilding more than once — Kenny took the next step in his journey. In 2022, he founded Northland Erosion Control LLC, carrying forward the same work ethic, integrity, and commitment that have defined his career from the beginning .

In January 2024, Janet Westberg joined the company full-time after retiring from the United States Postal Service. Though she’d always been part of the business in one way or another, coming on board full-time let her put her focus where it mattered most: estimating and customer service. Today, Janet holds majority ownership, making Northland Erosion Control a certified woman-owned business.

What started as one person and one service has grown into a full-service erosion control company trusted by commercial contractors, residential builders, and property owners across the region. While hydroseeding remains one of our specialties, our capabilities today include:

• Silt fencing — professional installation for site protection and compliance
• Erosion control blankets — stabilization for slopes, ditches, and disturbed soils
• Sediment barriers — effective runoff and sediment containment
• Inlet protection — safeguarding stormwater systems
• Drill seeding — precise seed placement for large-scale projects
• Channel check devices — controlling flow and preventing washouts

Kenny and Janet are also the parents of seven children and grandparents to fourteen grandchildren. For them, Northland Erosion Control isn’t just a business — it’s a legacy. The next generation is learning the same lessons that built the company: show up, work hard, and honor your word. A promise, in this family, is as reliable as a signed contract.

Our purpose is simple: protect the environment, serve our customers, and build a legacy of honesty and hard work for the generations that follow.

Meet the Team

Kenny

Kenny has lived in the Northland for 54 years and has been in the erosion control industry since 2005. He’s built and rebuilt businesses through an economic downturn and a dissolved partnership, and in 2022 he founded Northland Erosion Control LLC with the same hands-on approach that’s defined his whole career. His experience spans the full range of erosion control work — from silt fencing to drill seeding — and it shows in the craftsmanship on every job site. 

Janet

A longtime Kansas City resident of 38 years, with 22 of those in the Northland, Janet joined Northland Erosion Control full-time in January 2024 after retiring from the United States Postal Service — though she’d been part of the business in one way or another from the start. As majority owner, she manages estimating and customer service needs and plays a key role in the day-to-day success of the business.  She is passionate about providing excellent service and takes pride in making sure every project is completed to customer satisfaction.
